At the age of 16, Tony Marley read his first article in the Farmers Journal about a farmer who hired out his farm equipment. This article planted the seed to what would become Marley hire.1966
By the time he had reached 24, Tony has saved enough to put down a deposit on his first machine in 1974. His investment was a Howard Rotaspreader, and as he slowly added more machinery, the ‘Farm Hire: The Big Yellow Shed’ established into a growing business.1974
Initial success was not assured as Tony would admit that they made mistakes, but soon learned it was more cost effective if they bought quality machines from leading manufacturers.Late 70's
During the early days of business, the Moy Road had not been improved, and the Big Yellow Shed was adjacent to the infamously dangerous part of the road at Bartley’s Bridge. In some ways, it was an advantage to the business as traffic virtually came to a halt, so the establishment could not be missed.Early 80's
In the late 80’s, the business was now known as Marley Hire and Tony soon realised he had to expand. The old farm yard was knocked down and a new premises was built to focus on DIY & Building equipment hire.Late 80’s
In the early 90’s, more money was invested into heavier construction machinery & equipment, and the business continued to grow from strength to strength.Early 90’s
Throughout the 2000’s, Tony would continue to invest in the latest tools, machinery and equipment.Early 2000's
With Tony’s son Thomas joining the firm in 2012, the Marley family continue to provide the local community with high quality hire equipment.2012
